US government efforts
Federal and State governments are advancing new water, biodiversity & ecosystem services strategies. Sustainable Flows helps agencies with strategy and practical implementation. Currently, Sustainable Flows is researching:
- Directive on Incorporating Ecosystem Services into Federal Decision Making, calls all Federal agencies to develop work plans by March, 2016
- President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology call for protecting society and the economy (PDF) by integrating ecosystem services into the work of Federal agencies
- EPA’s Final Ecosystem Goods and Services Classifications System (PDF)
- Urban ecosystem services risks, opportunities and values
The world’s poor are heavily dependent on water & ecosystem services. Properly integrating these into international development projects can speed progress from poverty reduction to sustainability to climate change adaptation. Sustainable Flows works with leaders to integrate ecosystem services into international development programs, policies and practices.
Government agencies are improving their management the environmental tradeoffs of their activities and the impacts of the policies they oversee. Sustainable Flows’ staff has been working globally on valuation for 20 years and helped write TEEB for Business and Enterprise and The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity in National and International Policy Making.
